Arnold Field is named after 5 Star General Henry "Hap" Arnold, World War II Commanding General of the Army Air Force. He was a Sonoma Valley resident after the end of the War until his death in 1950. Softball fields (not for public use).

The Bouverie Preserve includes over 500 acres and hosts environmental education for local elementary school grade students. The Preserve is home to four plant communities: oak woodland, mixed evergreen, riparian woodland, and chaparral, and a distinct variety of large and small animals, over 125 species of birds, and more than 325 species of wild plants. Public access is limited to those visitors chosen by lottery a few times a year. Tours are lead by volunteer docents.

Directions from the Sonoma Plaza: Travel time: 15 minutes From the south side of the Plaza, take Highway 12 west (West Napa Street). Pass Verano Avenue and continue on Highway 12 for approximately 7 miles. Turn right into the Bouverie Preserve ranch gated driveway.

    Directions from the Sonoma Plaza: From the north side of the Plaza, on the left side of the Toscano Hotel, walk through the courtyard to the back parking lot. At the far end of the parking lot is Depot Park.

Directions from the Sonoma Plaza: Travel time: 10 minutes From the south side of the Plaza, take Highway 12 west (West Napa Street) to Verano Avenue. Left on Verano, then right on Arnold Drive. Continue on 3 or 4 blocks. You'll see Ernie Smith Park on the right from Arnold Drive.

Larson Park

Directions from the Sonoma Plaza: Travel time: 10 minutes From the south side of the Plaza, take Highway 12 west (West Napa Street). Pass Verano Avenue and continue on Highway 12. Turn left onto Boyes Boulevard, then right onto Greger Street. Turn left on Lichtenberg Avenue and right on DeChene Avenue. Follow DeChene Avenue to the end and into Larson Park.

Directions from the Sonoma Plaza: Travel time: 10 minutes From the "T" intersection at the south side of the Plaza, follow Broadway (Highway 12) southward. Continue for two miles and turn left onto Napa Road. Turn left onto Larkin Drive, then make your first left onto turn left onto Dewell Drive. Follow it to Fine Avenue.

Directions from the Sonoma Plaza: Travel time: 3 minutes The Sonoma Bike Path runs from 4th Street East, through Depot Park and Olson Park, and on to Maxwell Farms Regional Park on Highway 12. From the north side of the Plaza, on the left side of the Toscano Hotel, walk through the courtyard to the back parking lot. At the far end of the parking lot is Depot Park.

Directions from the Sonoma Plaza: Travel time: 20 minutes From the south side of the Plaza, take Highway 12 west (West Napa Street). Pass Verano Avenue and continue on Highway 12 for approximately 7 miles. Sonoma Valley Regional Park is on the left next to the fire station.

  • Hiking, horseback riding (rental) camping, fishing, picnic areas, creek, spring wildflowers, winter waterfall, observatory, biking trails.

Hugging the west side of the Mayacamas mountains, the Sugarloaf State Park grounds include over 20 miles of trail though oak groves, meadows, and redwood forests around Sonoma Creek. In spring and summer the days are warm to hot with very cool nights. In the winter below the campground is a 25-foot waterfall. Springtime wildflowers abound.

Directions from the Sonoma Plaza: Travel time: 30 minutes From the south side of the Plaza, take Highway 12 west (West Napa Street). Pass Verano Avenue and continue on Highway 12 for approximately 10 miles. Turn right onto Adobe Canyon Road and follow it to the end.
